The Problem: 20 Years of Clunky Commands and Bloatware

For more than two decades, scheduling a PC shutdown in Windows has been an archaic experience. Millions of users still rely on the tedious CMD command shutdown -s -t 3600 or abandoned utilities from the Windows XP era packed with invasive ads, suspicious installers, or pixelated interfaces.

Furthermore, traditional shutdown tools suffer from two critical flaws:

  1. The “Alarm Clock Effect”: If you fall asleep listening to music, podcasts, or white noise on YouTube or Spotify, the abrupt silence when the PC cuts off causes micro-awakenings that ruin sleep quality.
  2. False Shutdown Positives: If a background application hangs, prompts “Save changes?”, or if the timer app is accidentally closed, Windows aborts the shutdown sequence and leaves the machine running all night.

The Solution: Nocturna

I built Nocturna under the banner of Kometa Networks to deliver the definitive sleep timer for Windows. A modern desktop utility with native Windows 11 aesthetics, ultra-fast responsiveness, and complete respect for system resources and user privacy.

Architecture and Rust Engineering

Unlike modern desktop utilities built on bloated Chromium/Electron wrappers (which easily consume 150+ MB of RAM just to render a clock), Nocturna was engineered with uncompromising efficiency:
