Why Geo Lienzo?
We all have a place that means something to us: where we grew up, where we fell in love, or that one trip that changed our lives. Geo Lienzo was born from a personal question: Why is it so hard to turn a map into a premium decor piece without being a design expert?
I wanted to bridge the gap between geographic data and aesthetics. My motivation was to allow anyone to “frame” their memories with the precision of a cartographer and the elegance of a designer, transforming something as technical as a coordinate into an emotional piece of art.
The Art of Data
Turning a digital canvas into a high-resolution printable poster (300 DPI) wasn’t just a visual challenge; it was an engineering mission. To make the project feel like a real product rather than just a demo, we had to solve deep problems at the intersection of code and design:
1. Dynamic Composition
We developed an Adaptive Typography system that adjusts municipality and region names in real-time. We didn’t want awkward cuts or overlapping text; the map must “beathe” and maintain visual harmony regardless of the scale or the part of the world selected.
2. The Export Pipeline
For a map to be “art,” it must be crisp. We implemented an export engine capable of generating professional PNG, PDF, and SVG files directly in the browser, handling complex layers of geographic data without losing a single detail or requiring a rendering server.
3. Cartographic UX and Stability
We redesigned the interaction to make the design intuitive. Through a complete refactor of the state architecture and precise event management (pointer-events), we enabled marker editing and map movement to coexist seamlessly, eliminating the typical instability of overlays on dynamic maps.
The Result
What started as a technical experiment ended up as a tool capable of transforming pixels into physical products. Geo Lienzo is the intersection where data precision meets design emotion, allowing geography to tell personal stories.
